MEMBERS OF the Allahabad University Union (AUU) and Pratiyogi Chhatra Morcha took out a procession and held a demonstration at the office of the UP Public Service Commission (UPPSC) on Tuesday.

They were protesting against formation of the UP Subordinate Service Selection Commission (SSSC) and the failure of the State Government to accept their demand of selecting at least 10 per cent of the examinees appearing for the PCS (Pre) examination.

The students first assembled in front of the AU Union Hall and held a meeting there amid tight security. They then marched towards the UPPSC office, led by AUU president Ajeet Kumar Yadav, shouting anti-administration slogans.

They held a demonstration at the gate of the UPPSC office, after which five students were invited for talks by UPPSC authorities. However, the AUU president turned down the offer and insisted that a 10-member panel of students’ representatives would talk to the authorities.

The deadlock over the issue saw the students losing their cool and blocking the busy GT Road.

This led to SP City arriving to the scene to convince the agitating students to submit their memorandum and hold talks with the officials concerned on Wednesday at 3 pm.

He also assured them that a 10-member delegation would be allowed to enter the UPPSC office on Wednesday.
