They surrounded the hotel in which he was staying, waving black flags and shouting slogans. When Malik appeared on the balcony of his third floor hotel room, they promptly hurled shoes, slippers, bricks and stones at him. But working against gravity none of them found their target. Malik hastily ducked back into his room again.

Police had to be called to get them to disperse.

Malik has been in Ajmer with his family since Wednesday to perform the ziarat at the renowned dargah of Moinuddin Chisti.

"Yasin Malik has sedition charges against him," said BJP MLA from Ajmer Vasudev Devnani. "Nationalists of Ajmer do not want such a separatist in our town."

BJYM workers submitted a memorandum to Ajmer collector Manju Rajpal demanding that Malik be ordered to leave town immediately.
