Those present at the meeting, including PUCL State president Ravi Kiran Jain, vice-president OD Singh, general secretary KK Roy, Awadesh Rai and Nandita Adaval, expressed solidarity with the view that allowing the US president to visit the samadhi of Mahatma Gandhi and pay floral tribute there would be an insult to the Father of the Nation.

It would signify an abject surrender of the UPA Government before the supremacy of the US, they said.

Therefore, the PUCL members decided to support the Azadi Bachao Andolan’s resolve to stop President Bush to visit Mahatma Gandhi’s samadhi.

The participants said Bush was responsible for the deaths of lakhs of innocent citizens, including women and children, in Iraq, Afghanistan, Cuba and other third world countries.

They further said the United States was destroying the sovereignty of the weaker nations by employing instruments of globalisation and World Trade Organisation against them.

The participants added that the final agitation plan against Bush’s visit would be discussed at a meeting, convened by the Azadi Bachao Andolan at Gandhi Bhawan, Chatham Lines, on Sunday.
