Riding on individual performances and still struggling to work together as a team, hosts Punjab are set to face a tough Tamil Nadu in the important Ranji Trophy encounter that kicks off here on Tuesday.
Punjab put up an average batting display in the first two games against Mumbai and Hyderabad, and have been riding more on individual batting performances. Opener Ravi Inder and Vishwas Bhalla have got a hundred each and they’ll be hoping that others come to the party.
The likes of Uday Kaul, Taruwar Kohli and even Pankaj Dharmani need to fire. Opener Sunny Sohal has also disappointed in the previous two games.
But one thing that has kept Punjab going is the pace battery that comprises of Manpreet Gony, Harmeet Singh and Love Abhilish. Harmeet though will miss this game due to injury.
Tamil Nadu, meanwhile, have had a good season so far, and will look to improve from here. Their batting has been impressive and the good thing for the squad is that opener Murali Vijay, who was not picked in the playing Indian XI on Monday, will be playing this Ranji game.
Although they will miss Badrinath, who has not been released from national duty. Dinesh Karthik, who is leading the Tamil Nadu squad, is in good nick.
As far as bowling is concerned, all eyes will be on Laxmipathy Balaji and company.
However, Punjab skipper Ankur Kakkar seemed a confident man.
Said Kakkar, “This match is very important for us and we aim to put up a good total on the board.
There have been lapses in concentration in the previous two games and we would like to rectify that.”
