Talking to mediapersons, Srivastav said polarisation of votes on religious and caste lines had taken a toll on the region’s development. Fertiliser units had to shut down, sugar mills were not running in this region and cane growers were committing suicide.

But the State government had turned insensitive on these issues. He called upon party workers to ensure success of Congress’ jail bharo movement scheduled from November 20 against the State government.

Meanwhile, Congress convened a meeting of party workers at the district party office. Presiding over the meeting, district unit president Sanjeev Kumar Singh said police and administration were blind to the rising crime graph.

He said following the call given by Sonia Gandhi, thousands of party workers would court arrest at the district jail on November 21. He further said that on November 27 party activists would gherao UP Assembly.

Meanwhile, national general secretary of youth Congress Prakash Joshi said here that Youth Congress had launched a campaign to highlight the policies of the UPA government.
