Ayan Adak, a student of the pharmacy department of the Uluberia Calcutta Institute of Pharmaceuticals Technology, hanged himself from the ceiling of the cowshed adjacent to his house at Alinan village in East Midnapore district, the police said.

The traumatised boy was admitted to Uluberia hospital after he was subjected to repeated physical and mental abuse and returned home on Thursday, the OC of Tamluk police station, Subhankar Dey, said.

Dey said this morning the student talked to his father about shifting to another college but an hour later he took his own life.

The police has sent the body for post-mortem.
