"This verdict is a setback not only to the campaign seeking justice for Aman - but to a larger, psychological one that aims to uproot the scourge of ragging," Aman's father, Dr Rajendra Kachroo, told HT on Sunday.

Aman, a first year student at Dr Rajendra Prasad Medical College in Kangra (Himachal Pradesh), died in hospital on March 8 last year after being ragged allegedly by four senior students Abhinav Verma, Naveen Verma, Ajay Verma and Mukul Sharma.

Charged with murder, the four spent 16 months in jail before being released on Saturday.

They were asked to file a surety bond of Rs 50,000 each.
