Rahman team to record Wangala beat for CWG ceremony

The 100-drums Wangala Festival, the biggest celebration of the Garos in Meghalaya, will commence from on Friday at Asanang in West Garo Hills district.
West Garo Hills deputy commissioner Sanjay Goyal said that music maestro Rahman has decided to include the Wangala drumbeats in his composition as the only representation from Northeast India.
He said that troupes from neighbouring Bangladesh, where there is a good chunk of Garo populace, are also expected to participate in the festival.
The two-day harvest festival will witness Wangala troupes drawn from different parts of Garo Hills. Young and old dressed in their colourful traditional attire with feathered headgear will dance to the tune of music played on long, oval-shaped drums (Dama).
