Lashing out at the Mulayam Singh Yadav Government in Uttar Pradesh, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Monday held his government responsible for the lack of development" in Rae Bareli.

Addressing a series of election meetings in Sareni Assembly segment of the sprawling Lok Sabha constituency, he accused the state government of not cooperating with the Centre for carrying out development schemes in his mother Sonia Gandhi's constituency.

"It is the central government which is carrying out the work in Rae Bareli. The UP government is doing nothing for its development," was Rahul's refrain at half-a-dozen whistle stop public meetings.

The scion of the Gandhi family went a step further with his attack against the state government, which incidentally is supported by the Congress, by saying that the SP government was even trying to stop the good work sought to be done by the Centre for the people of the constituency.

"The state government should understand that the development schemes are for the benefit of the public. Ultimately, it is the common man who will gain," he said as the gathering heard him with rapt attention braving the scorching summer sun.

He reminded the people that the credit for development in the area went to Sonia Gandhi, who did so much for the constituency in two years.

"We have a responsibility and shall shoulder it," Rahul said amidst a spontaneous applause from the gathering.

At one of the meetings, he charged the UP government with not cooperating in the implementation of schemes from his mother's MPLADS fund.
