A top official of the child welfare department has been charged with raping a woman who runs a school for mentally-challenged children, police said.

The 38-year-old woman, who runs the school in Mahalaxmipuram Batavadi area, alleged in her police complaint that the official had raped her at a hotel on April 12, promising release of medical grant to her institution, Inspector Kenche Gowda said.
