Companies in this space offer a range of services from maintenance of lifts, pumps, generators, sewage treatment plants, and air-conditioning of the building, maintenance of electrical fittings etc to housekeeping, upkeep, security and safety management of a building.

On a more comprehensive scale, services like fleet management, cafe/pantry, front desk and mailroom management may also fall under the purview of facility management.

US-based International Facility Management Association (IFMA), which is present in 50 countries, is the premier professional association in this segment. IFMA’s India chapter has members in Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Ahmedabad and Hyderabad.

They meet every month and offer educational seminars, research reports, networking opportunities and certification programmes.
