National award winning director Madhur Bhandarkar who's known to take inspiration from reality has apparently derived inspiration for his latest flick Jail from a Brazilian film.
Unlike other filmmakers, Madhur Bhandarkar has always preferred original scripts to inspired ones.

Chandni Bar, Fashion and Corporate are some examples. But it seems the director has fallen short of ideas. Madhur's upcoming flick Jail is apparently a rip-off of the 2003 Brazilian hit flick Carandiru.
A source reveals, "Jail is said to be a realist take on the situation in the high security prison system of India. Neil Nitin Mukesh plays an innocent guy in the prison for a crime he never commits. The Indian film is borrowing heavily from the Brazilian film and there are many similarities between the two stories."
The Brazilian film Carandiru is based on the real-life experiences of Dr Drauzio Varella inside the dreadful state penitentiary Carandiru in Sao Paulo, Brazil, while he was doing a social work on Aids prevention.
Director Madhur Bhandarkar however maintains that Jail has an original script.
