THE RURAL Electrification Corporation (REC), has called a meeting with UPPCL officials in New Delhi on Thursday. It will review the progress of projects under the Rajiv Gandhi Village Electrification Programme in UP. The REC wants to satisfy itself before it releases the second installment of funds for electrification of villages.

UPPCL chairman and principal secretary (energy), AK Khurana, PCL managing director, Avnish Awasthi, director (finance), SK Agarwal, along with other officials rushed to Delhi on Wednesday evening to participate in the meeting.

Meanwhile, taking serious note of complaints about growing power cuts in the city, UPPCL MD Avnish Awasthi today asked director (distribution) Arun to find out if frequent power cuts were due to tripping under low frequency, or there were other reasons too.

This followed after UP Rajya Vidyut Upbhokta Parishad president Avdhesh Kumar Verma made a written complaint to the MD drawing his attention to power tripping in various parts of the city especially, in the trans-Gomti area. He pointed out that the people were facing worst-ever power cuts these days , while LESA officers harp on the same answer, “power cuts happen due to low frequency of the grid.”
