Residents, realtor at loggerheads over gate issue

The gate in the E block, which residents installed on their own after collecting R54,000 last year, was removed by the developer Ansal Buildwell.

The gate is still lying on the road and neither residents nor Ansal Buildwell is removing it from the spot.

Though residents had moved the court, Ansal Buildwell won the case on the ground that the land on which the gate was installed was a green belt area and its installation was violation of the Act.

“We invested money to ensure our own security whereas we are paying maintenance charges to Ansal Buildwell. If we have to take care of our own security, why should we pay the charges? They also keep increasing the charges with time,” said Renu Sharma, a resident of E Block.

SC Sharma, senior vice president of Ansal Buildwell, said, “On the demand of residents, we can remove the gate. But without their consent, we won't even touch it as they have taken legal action against us.”

Joginder Singh, president of RWA Sushant Lok 3, said, “Residents wanted their security as the way was creating nuisance for them. Vendors pass through the lane all day and night. The colony has witnessed several theft cases in the past. People from nearby villages were also using the lane and at times, there was too much honking, which troubled residents.”

The court had directed residents to maintain the green belt in the area but till now, nothing is done.

Residents are still waiting for Ansal Buildwell to take the initiative. On the other hand, the developer is waiting for their request in writing. As such, there is no end in sight to the ongoing problem.

Ragini Pasanda, RWA vice-president said, “Ansal Buildwell was aware when we were installing the gate. We went to them several times with the request to install the gate but they didn't tell us that we could not install it. Its only when work was done and the amount was spent that they took action.”
