The package, sanctioned under the Integrated Development of Leather Sector Scheme (IDLS), is meant for technical upgradation of the industry. Under this scheme, all the three-year-old profitable units would be considered for assistance.
This was stated at an awareness programme held on November 3, last year.
The awareness programme was organised by the Footwear Design and Development Institute (FDDI) jointly with the Central Leather Research Institute and Council for Leather Exports.
As per the scheme, all leather products, footwear and footwear component units in existence for at least three years and recorded profit for two years till November 3, 2005 would be considered for financial assistance.
The scheme will be implemented through two Project Implementation Units (PIUs) —CLRI, Chennai for tannery and FDDI, Noida for leather goods and garments.
Thereby, the industrial units desirous of availing financial aid under this scheme can apply to the FDDI or the CLRI.
The assistance envisaged under the scheme would consist of grant to the extent of 30 per cent of the cost of plant and machinery for SSIs and 20 per cent of the cost of the plant and machinery for other units (i.e non-small scale units) subject to a ceiling of Rs 50 lakh for both the categories for technology upgradation, modernisation and or expansion.
