IN A strange incident, two youths allegedly stole Rs 43,000 belonging to a Chhatarpur-based businessman from his suite in a hotel in TT Nagar area on Wednesday afternoon.
The incident occurred when the businessman was away and the accused allegedly posed as his acquaintances and managed to get into the suite and take away the cash.
TT Nagar SHO RS Ghuraiya said that the complainant, KP Singh, a resident of Chhatarpur, had come to the capital for buying a house and had brought Rs 5.5 lakh along. He was staying at suite number 207 of the Hotel Palash Residency.
Singh left the hotel during the day for seeing the house, which he wanted to buy. He had taken along Rs 5 lakh and kept Rs 7,000 in another pocket leaving Rs 43,000 in the room. However, sometime later two youths came to the hotel and posing as his acquaintances obtained the key of his suite. They later left with the cash.
The police suspect that the accused knew Singh quite well. The TT Nagar police have registered a case of fraud against unidentified persons and are interrogating the staff. The police are unable to digest the fact that the keys were given to the duo. The hunt had been launched for the duo and investigations were in progress.
Meanwhile, in another incident, a man was booked for fraud for trying to obtain the compensation of gas claim meant for a woman through forged papers.
The accused, Abdul Aziz, resident of Ashoka Garden, had submitted documents to obtain the compensation for one, Rafiqa Bi, who was affected during the gas tragedy and had subsequently died. It was found that Aziz had no locus standi for receiving the compensation worth Rs 1 lakh. The Habibganj police had registered a case and were investigating the matter.
