According to SP (rural) AK Mishra, the two women were travelling to Nainital in a cab on Friday night, when they stopped at Garhmukteshwar.

"Three men, who were in a car, teased the women and when their driver Rahul protested, he was stabbed by one of the three men. The assailants then escaped," he said.
