Inwhat is being described (euphemistically, one hopes) by publicists as the sporting equivalent of "Amitabh doing a KBC", Sachin Tendulkar has signed an exclusive, long-term contract for programming in India with ESPN Star Sports.
Though Tendulkar's exact role at the sports channel is yet to be worked out, according to the contract, signed between Tendulkar’s agent WorldTel and ESPN Star Sports, the cricketer will join the channel for brand promotion and exclusive programmes.
Though ESPN said the contract fee was a "commercial secret", sources believe the figure — conservatively — to be Rs 12 crore.
After the deal was signed at the Crowne Plaza James Court Hotel here on Thursday, Sachin said, "I'm extremely delighted to be associated with ESPN Star Sports. It will help me interact with followers of the game at a very personal level."
Asked if his television engagements would affect his cricket, he said, "I find anything to do with cricket interesting, but playing cricket is my first priority."
