Every counter witnessed heavy rush and the bank even opened extension counters for public dealing and collection of cash from the traders, who were waiting eagerly to deposit the cash collected at their shops in the past one week.
District police officials have also made elaborate security arrangement in and around the banks to keep miscreants on the bay and to curb the possibility of looting. Sources said the pensioners and salaried people reached the banks one-hour advance to avoid rush but they had to suffer a bit due to rush.
General secretary of the Bank Employees Federation, GM Khan, said bank ATMs had been loaded with cash for payment. He said all the employees were informed about calling of strike last night. Khan said on the first day, the bank administration preferred to deal the customers and provide them cash on their demands. He expressed hope that the clearing section where a pile of cheques had been stored would be streamlined within two days.
