The accident took place when the driver of the Koraput-Howrah Samaleswari Express jumped the signal at Jharsuguda railway station, 374 km from here, police official RN Bal said.

Both the trains were at the station. The signal was given to the goods train to move but the driver of the passenger train moved his train, leading to the collision.

"Twenty-four-year-old Vikas Nayak jumped from the passenger train and suffered injuries on one of his legs. He is in hospital," the official said.

The three others were discharged after first-aid.

Samaleswari Express left for its destination after a halt of about six hours, Mahato said.
