The protest started as soon as Prime Minister Manmohan Singh took off for Nagpur after meeting farmers in the district.

Local Sena MLA Sanjay Singh Rathod and party workers began raising slogans against the state government.

The Sena workers condemned the DF government for ignoring the plight of farmers in Vidarbha and blamed the increasing number of farmers' suicides in the region due to "anti-farmer" policies of the government.

Rathod displayed an urn which he said contained "symbolic ashes of the state government."

Police later took the Sena activists into custody.
