Pocha, 46, who had also worked as editor of Business World and was the Beijing correspondent of the Boston Globe, died of a cardiac arrest.

A warm and outgoing person who had mentored many younger journalists, Pocha was active in all forms of media. Till late on Friday evening, he was engaged in light banter about political issues, including reactions to the budget, with followers and friends.

Condoling the journalist’s demise, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Pocha would be remembered as a leading voice on TV, print and social media.

“Shocked and saddened to hear about Jehangir Pocha’s demise. My condolences to his family in this hour of grief. May his soul rest in peace,” Modi said on Twitter. “His frank and insightful views on issues will be missed,” the Prime Minister said in another tweet.

The Broadcast Editor’s Association called it a ‘big loss to the world of TV journalism’. Pocha, born in 1968, is survived by his wife and two young twins.
