The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbhandhak Committee (SGPC) on Friday alleged that Congress chief Sonia Gandhi played a “major role” in CBI’s clean chit to Jagdish Tytler in a 1984 anti-Sikh riot case and threatened to organise a dharna in front of her house.

SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar told reporters that several Sikhs under the aegis of various organisations of the community would hold a dharna outside Gandhi’s residence in New Delhi on April 7.

Alleging Sonia’s hand in the development, Makkar said, “The AICC president played the major role in the CBI’s report to get her party men out of the case.”

Criticising the CBI, he said that it had reached the lowest ebb of efficiency and the sleuths were just stooges in the hands of the ruling party.

He said it was not a coincidence that Congress had given party ticket to Tytler a fortnight ago and the CBI had filed its inquiry report in the court on Thursday
