In a letter written to chief minister Virbhadra Singh, the BJP veteran has hailed the government's decision on the 6-km-long ropeway, important from tourism point of view.

“Himani Chamunda is important like Vaishno Devi Shrine in Jammu and Kashmir,” Kumar said, adding that he was making efforts to get the ropeway project sanctioned for the past six years. He said he had also tried to construct a pathway to the sacred place by donating from his MP funds.

Kumar added that there was a new developmental approach needed to be adopted especially after the Uttarakhand tragedy considering the fragile ecology of the hill state.“Himachal has a vast potential in the tourism sector and religious tourism could bring Himachal on international map,” said Kumar advising to connect other prominent places in the state through ropeways.

He said the Dhauladhar mountain range was the centre of attraction for day-trippers and if the mighty mountains could be connected through ropeways it would boost tourism in the region. He expressed hope that the construction work on the Himani Chamunda ropeway would be started soon.
