Sharad Mela in city from today
SHARAD MELA is being organised at Allahabad Haat at the North Central Zone Cultural Centre from Friday to January 15. Commissioner Dr Lalit Verma will inaugurate the event on Friday evening. The fair will remain open for public from 11 am to 8:30 pm.

The fair will provide an opportunity to people of the city to choose from an attractive range of traditional handicrafts made of leather and other items and woollen garments.
Cultural events will be held in the evening. Students of Sanskrit Paathshala will present Vedic mantras on the inaugural day.
Folk songs will be presented by Ajay Mishra and his group from Azamgarh while Sheeshpal and his group will present Haryanvi folk songs and dance.
A puppet show will be presented by Moolchand of Allahabad on January 7 while the play titled ‘Ghasiram Kotwal’ will be the main attraction on January 8.
Besides, folk songs will also be presented by Parasnath Yadav from Ghazipur.
A poets’ conference will be organised on January 9 while Beena Singh will present folk songs on January 10.
A mushaira is slated for January 11 and jawabi biraha will take place on January 12.
Manmohan Dal will present traditional folk songs on January 13 and Atul Gautam and his group from Mirzapur on January 14.
Ashok Narayan Shukla will stage a magic show on the concluding day.
Sports trials
OPEN DISTRICT-LEVEL trials for table tennis, tennis, badminton, basketball, volleyball, hockey, athletics, handball, kho-kho, wrestling, kabaddi, football and boxing for girls and boys will be held from Friday at 3:30 pm.
Trials for indoor games will be held at Mayo Hall Sports Complex here while the remaining trials will be held at Madan Mohan Malviya Stadium.
Regional sports officer RK Mehrotra has asked all the principals to send their students to the district-level trials.
