Sharath advance to final of Indian Open

The Chennai boy registered a convincing win over national Champion Shubhajit Saha 4-0 to reach the singles final of Indian Open Table Tennis Championship.

Achanta Sharath Kamal registered a convincing win over national Champion Shubhajit Saha 4-0 to reach the singles final of the USD 25,000 Indian Open Table Tennis Championship here today.

Sharath Kamal scored a 11-6, 16-14, 11-8, 11-6 victory over Saha to book his first ITTF Pro Tour final berth which is also the first for any Indian paddler.

The Chennai boy scored a major upset over Yang Zi of Singapore yestreday and carried on his fine form against Saha, who had beaten Sharath in the national chamionship last time.

Sharath, seeded fifth, set up a clash with top seed Gao Ning of Singapore who beat Tosic Roko of Croatia 11-7 12-10 11-8 11-8.

In the women's singles semifinal, Poloumi Ghatak got a surprise final berth after Singapore'a Yu Meng Yu, seeded second, gave a walkover due to health problem.

Ghatak will meet top seed Sun Bei Bei who beat compatriot Ma Ling Lu 13-11 11-8 11-4 11-7.
