Shera, a friendly tiger would be the official mascot for the 2010 Commonwealth Games to be held here, chairman of the organising committee of the games Suresh Kalmadi announcedon Thursday.
He also said the Delhi government would sponsor a 15-minute cultural programme at the closing ceremony of the Melbourne Commonwealth Games March 26.
"The programme, which would include several stars of the Indian entertainment industry, would be a great marketing opportunity for attracting sponsorship for the 2010 Games," he said.
"Our effort would be to project Delhi as a great destination of sports."
The closing ceremony of the Melbourne Games is expected to be watched by nearly two billion people across the world and 10 giant screens would be set up at various locations in the city for people to watch the ceremony.
The event will be conceptualised, produced and directed by Wizcraft International Entertainment and choreographed by Shiamak Davar.
The songs for the ceremony, which were launched here Thursday, have been penned by noted songwriters Javed Akhtar and Gulzar.
A delegation of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), led by Sunil Munjal, will also be in Melbourne for the closing ceremony, Kalmadi said.
Former Indian cricket captain Kapil Dev has accepted an invitation to be part of the list of sporting icons for the valedictory ceremony, he added.
