SIT to probe burning train incident in Jammu

The General Railway Police wing of Jammu and Kashmir Police has constituted a five-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the mysterious fire break out in two trains at Jammu Tawi Railway Station.

The General Railway Police wing of Jammu and Kashmir Police has constituted a five-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the mysterious fire break out in two trains at Jammu Tawi Railway Station.

Five coaches of two trains including Shalimar Express and Jammu Tawi-Allahabad Express on Sunday caught fire in which one bogie was completed gutted and four were partially damaged.

The SIT, comprising two officers of Deputy Superintendents rank and two Inspectors, will be headed by SP Railways Shiv Kumar Sharma, official sources here today said.

They said the team will ascertain the reason behind the incident.

In view of the previous incident which had taken place in 2011, in which two bogies of Jehlam and Himgiri Express were burnt mysteriously, the SIT would investigate the case and work on various theories, an official said.

A suspect has been detained in this case and the matter is being investigated, he said adding that the security has been tightened at the Railway Station while the dog squads with special teams were also patrolling and maintaining vigil.
