The truck driver fled the scene of the accident on the Karachi-Hyderabad highway, about 150 kilometers east of Karachi, the capital of southern Sindh province, said Mohammed Khalid, an area police chief.

"Acting on information from the injured people, officers are looking for the truck and its driver," he said, adding that three of the injured were in critical condition in a hospital.

Fatal road accidents are common in Pakistan and many are blamed on disregard for traffic rules. Public transport drivers are also not often properly trained and many work long hours in poor conditions.
