Warden RD Rai and chief proctor Prof Rajendra Prasad were absent when the police team led by SP City Dilip Kumar and Cantonment circle officer Swami Nath conducted the raid on the hostel.

The raid followed complaints that hostel inmates lifted motorcycles from various localities in the city.

Reports said suspicious students managed to flee from the hostel, taking advantage of darkness, when power supply was suspended in the city.

Sources said police identified Dharm Chand Tiwari, resident of Goraknath for his involvement in lifting motorcycles and his connection with hostel students.

Earlier, police also held up eight chairs, which were being carried out, from the hostel at night. However, university officials maintained a mysterious silence over the incident.
