The courtroom battle in poetess Madhumita Shukla murder case has now taken political colour, as slain poetess family today landed in Maharajganj to campaign against murder accused and Samajwadi Party candidate Amarmani Tripathi.
While Amarmani is sulking in Dehradun jail, Madhumita’s mother Shanti Kumari Shukla and sister Nidhi Shukla today launched “defeat Amarmani” operation in Laxmipur (Maharajganj), which goes to poll in seventh phase on May 8. The family has decided to go for “door-to-door” campaign against Amarmani.
Talking to Hindustan Times over phone from Gorakhpur, Nidhi Shukla said “various political parties have approached her to campaign for their candidates in Laxmipur”. Nidhi said “she is yet to decide about the party”. “How could I campaign for a candidate whose character is not known to me”, Nidhi said and added “I don’t want to help another Amarmani”.
Nidhi has brought nearly 3000 posters with slogans like “aab hatyare ko mat maaf karo, mere sath insaf karo” (donot forgive murderer and do justice with me) or “Laxmipur aab jag gaya hai, qatil dar kar bhag gaya (Laxmipur has now awaken and the murder has run away).
While Tripathi’s family has been making desperate efforts to generate sympathy wave for jailed Mafiosi Amarmani, Nidhi wants to convince the people that “his victory would be useless, as the people would have to go Dehradun jail to meet him”. “So better elect a candidate who is readily available in the constituency”, Nidhi argues.
Nidhi said that district administration has asked her to seek prior permission to hold public meetings. Thus shelving meeting plan, she has decided to concentrate on door-to-door campaigning during the next few day. However not ruling out the possibility of joining a political platform, Nidhi said “I will only give call to defeat Amarmani and not to vote for any particular candidate”. She said “the aim was to ensure victory of a candidate with clean image”. Nidhi alleged that Amarmani had addressed a public meeting through his cell phone from Dehradun jail. Nidhi had recently moved Supreme Court seeking transfer of murder case from present district court, as she alleged that the judge was close to Amarmani. The apex court has issued notices to state government and the CBI.
Interestingly, while Mafiosi-turned-MLA Harishankar Tiwari, who is contesting as Loktantrik Congress Party ticket from Chillupar (Gorakhpur), has been facing problem from US-based scientist Raja Vashishta Tripathi, a native of Chillupar, Nidhi has taken battle to Amarmani’ den. The Raja, who has especially come from the US, has given call for “oust Mafiosi”.
