Forty-five illegal immigrants from India and Bangladesh have been detained in a eastern Slovak town, an official said on Tuesday.
Police spokesman Martin Korch said the men, all of them aged under 30, were found during a routine check of a truck in the town of Kosice, 350 kilometres east of Bratislava, on Monday evening.
He said the immigrants had apparetly crossed illegally from Ukraine and are expected to ask for asylum in Slovakia.
Korch said the 39-yea-old Slovak driver of the truck was arrested and is facing up to eight years in prison if convicted of human smuggling.
