"Mughal Road has been closed for the last five to six days due to heavy snowfall, and no arrangements have been made to take stock of the situation. The district has been cut off from Srinagar district," said Kramat Hussain, a resident.

"We stay close to the Mughal Road and are facing lot of problems. There is at least 20 to 25ft snow. If someone falls sick, we do not have access to cars, hospitals or doctors. This district has been completely cut off. We demand some arrangements," said another resident Mohammed Latif.

The Mughal Road was once used by Mughal emperors to travel and capture the Kashmir valley.

Heavy snowfall had also shut down the National Highway, the only surface link between Kashmir and the rest of the country.

Normal life in many parts of north India has been adversely affected due to harsh weather conditions.
In places at higher altitudes, the temperature has dropped to the sub-zero level, with some states witnessing the lowest minimum temperatures.
