After two meetings with Aqueel during the past week, Sood finally took back the MiC members who had been dropped - Mohammed Sarwar, Amir Aqueel, Shahid Ali and Syed Munawwar Ali. In a meeting on January 18, these corporators had protested against the ‘autocratic’ attitude of the Mayor.

They alleged the Mayor had submitted the proposal on employees restructuring to the State Government even before it was brought before the MiC.

After the dispute, the Mayor and these members levelled charges against each other. The Mayor finally issued orders for their removal on January 22.

However, Union Minister Suresh Pachauri, who is Sood’s political mentor, mediated in the matter and told the Mayor to take back the removed MiC members.

During his visit to Bhopal on February 2, Pachauri met Aqueel and the Mayor together and told them to sort out the matter amicably. A cold war between the Mayor and Aqueel has been persisting for a long time.

Political observers said the allocation of previous departments to the re-inducted members could be reviewed. However, BMC insiders said it would be hard for the Mayor to change the departments of these MiC members. After re-inducting them, the Mayor left for Jabalpur to attend the meeting of the mayors.
