Sourav Ganguly renamed captain for Zimbabwe tour

The BCCI recalled Sourav Ganguly as India's cricket captain for the forthcoming Zimbabwe tour after he served a four-match ICC ban.

The BCCI on Friday recalled Sourav Ganguly as India's cricket captain for the forthcoming Zimbabwe tour after he served a four-match ban for the team's slow overrate against Pakistan.

Ganguly, 33, replaces Rahul Dravid who led the Indian team in the recent tri-series in Sri Lanka where India lost to Sri Lanka in the final.

The selectors met in Mumbai and decided to restore captaincy to Ganguly, who completed 10,000 runs in one-day internationals during the tri-series in Sri Lanka. He missed two one-dayers against Pakistan and another two tri-series games.

Ganguly's appointment was announced by cricket board secretary SK Nair, who said the Indian team for the Zimbabwe tour next month would be selected on Saturday.

The Zimbabwe tour will comprise a limited-overs tri-series that features New Zealand as the third team. India will also play two Test matches against Zimbabwe.
