Soz hails Rahul's stand for panchayats

Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Prof Saifuddin Soz thanked party vice-president Rahul Gandhi for taking keen interest in providing Rs 10 lakh to each panchayat in the state annually, apart from other funds that would flow to panchayats as per certain schemes in normal course.

In a statement issued here, Soz said Rahul Gandhi had made efforts to convince the Centre that the proposal from the union ministry of rural development to this effect should be accepted. It is expected that a grant of Rs 10 lakh to each panchayat in the state would be released, in foreseeable future i.e. very soon.

Soz has also thanked Rahul for assigning special role to panchayats in the state for programmes like Himayat and Ummed.

Soz said direct grant of Rs 10 lakh to each panchayat would give push to the development process and said once the proposal was formalised the money should be transferred by direct cash transfers.
