Speaker urges encouragement of needy children

Handing over the awards to the recipients who had scored brilliant in the Higher Secondary examination, Chatterjee lauded the role of Bhaumik, a noted Non Resident Indian (NRI) scientist and called for emulating the work of the foundation to nurture talent from poor families.

He said the country had many meritorious boys and girls from poor families. It is the support of such organisations that promoted the young talent to enrich the national human resources pool, he added. Bhaumik said that the foundation, run by a board of trustees, had approached the West Bengal government to give land for setting up of a campus for the scholarship holders.

The proposed campus would have hostel for about 10urges 0 students, a library, a reading room and an Information Technology hall. Sixty-seven students have been awarded by the foundation since its institution in 2002.
