Sports Minister promises Reena for help
Ministry sources said that Gill specially called Reena from Kolkata and listned to her grievances.
Sports Minister M. S. Gill, who has promised that no athlete will get a raw deal in matters of selection to the Beijing Games, has met archer Reena Kumari who had complained of favouritism in the selection of the squad.
Close on the heels of weightlifter Monica Devi being reinstated in the Indian contingent to Beijing Olympics after government intervention, Gill assured her of all help in looking into the matter.
Reena had pointed out several discrepancies in the selection process and said that she was left out of the team despite being the top performer in two trials.
Ministry sources said that Gill specially called Reena from Kolkata and listned to her grievances.
"The minister met her last week and assured her to examine the entire selection criteria," the source said.
Three women archers Dola Banerjee, Bombayla Devi and V Pranitha were selected for the Beijing Games after the trials in Kolkata in June.
Reena had come first in Meerut and Kolkata trials in May and she was told by the Archery Association of India (AAI) that she had been selected. But AAI decided to have another trial in Kolkata in June and she was left out after coming fifth.
