The incident took place when a group of students led by Patel tried to meet the V-C and submit a memorandum demanding immediate polls of the students union.

Upset over the shouting of slogans, the Proctor, backed by members of his team, questioned the students over the ruckus being created in a designated peace zone of the varsity and also confiscated their identity-cards. Later, the students held a meeting at the Union Hall and criticised the behaviour of the Proctor. Demanding a public apology from the proctor, the students also threatened to launch an agitation if the Proctor refuses to tender an apology.

On being contacted, AU Proctor Prof Jata Shankar said that the students were found shouting slogans in the peace zone. Moreover, they were also stopped as they failed to submit the memorandum either to the proctor or to the Dean, Students Welfare as per the new guidelines and tried to approach the V-C Office en masse shouting slogans. After their mistake was pointed out, they apologised and we gave their identity cards back to them, he said.

Dismissing the demand for an apology, Prof Jata Shankar said no misbehaviour took place with the agitating students.
