The lawsuit, filed on Wednesday in the US District Court in San Jose, California, alleges that computer maker Azul infringed on a number of Sun patents that deal with memory design in microprocessors and technology that helps transfer information between chips, the Journal reported.
The suit also claims that Azul Chief Executive and former Sun employee Stephen DeWitt, used Sun's intellectual property to develop products at Azul after signing a non-competitive agreement with Sun, the newspaper said.
Azul earlier sued Sun, accusing it of making unfounded patent-infringement claims, the Journal said.
Spokespeople for both companies were not immediately available for comment.
