Superintendent of Police Jagat Singh told UNI that Dr Sunilam was arrested after barricades, put up as a part of VIP security for the CM, were broken.

Dr Sunilam has started hunger strike in the jail along with state Kisan Sangharsh Samiti president Tanti Choudhary to protest the “murder of democracy”. He alleged that he was not allowed to meet Chouhan and present a memorandum.

“Preventing a legislator from meeting the Chief Minister and submitting a memorandum to him amounts to murder of democracy,” Dr Sunilam said.

Later the tribals, under the banner of Samajwadi Jan Parishad, posed six questions to Chouhan regarding illegal mining in forest areas during his visit to JH college. Pamphlets in this regard were also distributed.

They staged dharna at the college gate and their main question was why the government did not take action against officers, contractors and political leaders who indulged in illegal mining in forest area.

The Parishad has been campaigning against illegal mining in forest and revenue areas. They charged that the government and the administration were not taking action in this regard due to political pressure.
