FROM AWARDING rebates to consumers who deferred tax payments in 2005-06 the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) has moved to rewarding residents for prompt clearance of dues in the current fiscal. The Corporation has announced rebates on water and property tax as well for all consumers who pay their bills by end of the first quarter, that is June 30.
Discounts will also be granted to residents who clear education cess and general cleanliness tax dues by September 30, as per the proposal cleared by the Mayor-in-Council. Until now, the rebates were offered only towards the end of the financial year, a practice that led many consumers to deliberately withhold tax payments in the hope of being granted a partial waiver.
According to sources, the IMC will grant 6.25 percent discount on property tax to all those who submit returns for 2006-07 by June 30, 2007. Building owners who submit property tax by the second quarter (September 30) will be entitled to a four per cent rebate.
Residents who submit water tax payments between April 1 and May 31 will be granted six per cent discount. Similarly, 60 per cent rebate on education cess would be offered to those who submit payments by September 30. The figure would be pared to 40 per cent for consumers who clear their dues by December 31.
