After suffering its worst defeat in the assembly elections on Tuesday, the party was humiliated in the Lok Sabha elections too. The Congress has won 29 out of 42 seats from the state.

The TDP has so far bagged only five seats. This is the party's second worst performance in its 22-year history.

The Congress, which in 1999 bagged only five seats, has swept the polls along with its allies Telangana Rashtra Samiti, Communist Party of India and the Communist Party of India-Marxist.

The TRS, which contested six seats, bagged five. The CPI and CPI-M won one seat each while MIM retained the Hyderabad seat.

The TDP's worst showing was in 1989 when it won only two seats. In the simultaneous assembly polls, the party had lost power to Congress.

The party had bagged 29 seats in 1999 and 30 seats in 1984, the first elections it faced after its formation.
