Announcing this at a press conference held in the Capital recently, Anup Sonas, a consultant with Christel House said the Indian leg of tournament would be hosted in Bangalore, Pune and Delhi. The winning team at each of the three venues will qualify to compete in the world championship to be held at Indianapolis on September 12-13.
Proceeds from the event will go to Christel House for providing education and material help to the needy children. Christel House has a learning centre in Bangalore with 16 classrooms, a library and computer room. Currently, it provides education up to grade VII.
Sonas said children at the centre came from impoverished neighbourhoods, orphanages and shelter homes. “During the school years, we take care of the nutritional requirements by providing the children with breakfast, lunch and milk as part of a dietary plan prepared by the University of Agriculture Sciences, Bangalore,” he said.
To stop children from dropping out, the organisation interacts with parents and tries to tap the creativity in every child. “Our children are trained by Bhupathi Tennis Academy and Imtiaz Ahmed Cricket Academy,” said Sonas.
