Teen kills brother, eats organs
A teenager was arrested for killing and eating the heart and liver of his younger brother in central Thailand, police said on Friday.
Eighteen-year-old Suriya Pholsaeng with a history of drug addiction and mental illness is accused of murdering his 8-year-old brother, whose body was found in a rice field with his stomach cut open and internal organs missing, said police Maj. Chalerm Rucha.
The suspect said only, "I eat liver ... eat liver," according to Chalerm.
Suriya's parents told police he was heavily addicted to drugs and had been sent to a rehabilitation center before he was returned to his family because of mental disorders, he said.
Neighbours told police he was known to eat fresh chicken and pork liver, and he often said he wanted to consume fresh liver, Chalerm said.
Suriya could face murder charges and a maximum penalty of death, but he was to see a psychologist Friday to determine whether he is fit to stand trial.
He was arrested in Chaiyaphum province, about 275 kilometers (171 miles) north of Bangkok.
