A chat with Henry A. S. Ledlie, Director, IDP Education Australia, on studying in Australia.
What role does IDP Education Australia play in the overseas admission process?
IDP is used by Australian universities to promote Australia as a study destination. We represent four education sectors in Australian - school, English language teaching, vocational education and higher studies. IDP provides free services to assist international students from the time they step into our office till they reach Australia, as well as during their time in Australia.

What are the new endeavours on IDP's part?
IDP has tied up with Planet EDU to launch India's first IELTS preparatory training across 80 centres in the country.
Do Australian institutes follow a special study method?
In Australia, the emphasis is placed upon individual study along the lines of assignments, on research, presenting arguments about the subject matter, and also on being willing to defend one's argument. All these activities involve the use of libraries, electronic resources, and an active participation in the learning process.
Can international students rely on part-time earnings to cover their living costs in Australia? Which are the areas where recruitment is hot and happening?
No, students should never rely on part-time earnings to cover their living costs. It's a known fact though that Australia requires skilled IT and management professionals. International students who have obtained the relevant qualifications in Australia can easily qualify for skilled migration to Australia. But, student visas are given only for the purpose of study. If a student wishes to stay on and work after his/her visa expires, then s/he should apply for the correct category of visa. And, it's actually possible to apply for a temporary or permanent residence visa to stay on in Australia once the course ends.
