The article Copenhagen Cop Out (December 31, 2009) by Praful Bidwai provided valuable insight into the role of the environment minister at the recently-concluded Copenhagen Summit. Bidwai is right in saying that the Accord couldn’t have materialised without the collusion of China and the US. It’s a shame for India to have been the nation with the softest voice. This shows that India should have done its homework by taking environmentalists into confidence before participating in the summit. The Copenhagen exercise serves as an indicator of the chasm that exists between the rich and poor nations and it’s only through mutual cooperation that any sustainable change can be brought about.
