The talk show host beat off the competition from Kylie Minogue, Jamie Oliver and Sharon Osbourne to the top spot.
He was branded "delightful, kind and likeable" in a public vote by rice makers Uncle Ben's.
On the other end in the poll of the sourest personality, sourpuss Anne Robinson narrowly beat Gordon Ramsay and Simon Cowell to take the award.
The poll also found that wives are the sweetest people in everyday life, followed by husbands and daughters.
"Brits warm to sweet personalities because they make us go 'ahhh' and want to be close to them," The Sun quoted Uncle Ben's spokeswoman Jo Hewlett, as saying.
"On the other hand, we are drawn to those who are sour to see just what they're going to come up with next," she added.
