They seek publicity only and not tickets

While some are using it as a good publicity platform, others are preparing ground for the future. Talking to Hindustan Times, many such leaders corroborated the fact. Though every political party has its own share of such candidates, the Congress has the longest list.

Former mayor Anil Sharma, MLA Ajay Kapoor, Badrinarain Tiwari, former MLA Nekchandra Pandey and Alok Misra, a close confidante of PCC president Salman Khurshid, all want to contest for the post on Congress ticket. Besides, the list also includes a dozen other aspirants like Shakir Ali Usmani, Shivmangal Jauhari, Iqbalali Shah and HI Ansari. But most of them, senior party leaders believe, have submitted applications just for the sake of it. A fact many of these leaders, seeking anonymity, admit to too.

Similarly, of the four official applications received by the Samajwadi Party, senior party leaders, office-bearers and party workers are taking only those of Pramod and Shailendra seriously. Kulwantjeet Singh and KK Shukla are the other two ticket-seeking candidates.

Though BJP has taken no written applications from the aspirants, several of them have started propagating their names as the party candidate.
