The incident took place after an altercation between some people of the two communities over kite-flying, they said.

According to police, three persons were injured in the stone-pelting incident who have been referred to V S Hospital for treatment.

"Some tear gas shells and light baton charging was done to disperse the crowd belonging to both the communities," assistant commissioner of police M V Mehta told PTI.

"The situation was under control now," Mehta said, adding that city crime branch and officers of the special operations group (SOG) have been deployed in the area to suppress any further attempt of violence.

Police said that some vehicles which included an auto rickshaw and couple of two wheelers were damaged by the rioters.

Night petrolling in the area has also been increased, besides deployment of additional police force, they said.
